What is a decal in printing?
Photo sticker printing can seem intimidating but getting familiar with the technical side first will save you time, frustration and money in the long run. Learn about the best practices for creating a file that will print clearly and beautifully.
Tip #1: Avoid designing with large areas of solid color. It’s not easy or cheap to print consistent solid color over big areas. Pantone colors will print the most consistently but aren’t available for home printers. A good workaround is to break up your solid colors into smaller areas.
Tip #2: Make sure your design is in CMYK mode. The CMYK color mode is the one most printers will use to print your design. It’s a subtractive color mode meaning it prints darker by adding more ink. It can take time to make adjustments to your design if it was originally designed in RGB or other color modes.
Tip #3: Always check that your fonts are outlined. When artwork is submitted without outlines, we can’t guarantee that the text will print as you intended. We recommend printing a single sheet as a trial run and carefully scrutinizing the visual quality of your stickers before producing additional sheets. This will ensure that your final product matches your design and color palette exactly.
